Places - Uluru
Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is a gigantic rock in the middle of the Australian Outback. (No, not the Outback as in the restaurant chain, the Outback as in the vast Australian desert.) According to Jarrah’s mom, Karri, Uluru is an inselberg. That means it’s what’s left after a much bigger mountain eroded the hard core of an ancient mountain.
But to Mack, this reddish-brown, “squashed, flat-topped mountain” of a rock looks a little bit like the world’s biggest blood blister. Don’t get him wrong; Mack thinks Uluru is amazing. In the setting sun, it seems to glow red and there’s something about it that just feels familiar to him. Or it would, if he wasn’t so fixated on having to climb it—up and up and up and UP.
